The Organising Committee of the P@SHA ICT Awards 2009 is now actively seeking nominations to the following categories.

All participants must read all cluster categories carefully to determine the appropriate category which a nomination should be made under. The Committee reserves the right to advise and/or change the cluster category a submission should fall under.

At times, a nomination may fall under more than one category. Participating organisations should select only one category to submit the nomination. A participating organisation may submit more than one nomination. However, one nomination can only be submitted once and cannot be repeated under different categories.

1. Best of e-Learning

This Award is presented to the most innovative nomination for developing ICT solutions for the delivery of e-Learning. Any application of software and/or hardware that serves the needs of learners to acquire knowledge and skills through information and communication technologies; used in schools, universities, other educational institutions and corporations through interactive, personalized and distributed learning resources; creating active e-learning communities, target models and solutions.

2. Best of e-Government & Services

This Award is presented to the most innovative nomination for developing ICT solutions that support electronic government initiatives and service delivery to the community.Any application that is for the use of individuals or communities to promote, maintain, monitor, or restore health. Included are systems for hospitals, clinics, etc. Any application of software and/or hardware that enables transformation of internal and external government processes toward customer-centricity, providing service delivery opportunities to better fulfill the purposes of government to provide efficiency and effectiveness, as well as fairness and equitability.

3. Best of e-Inclusion and e-Community

This Award is presented to the most innovative nomination for developing ICT solutions that support communities and bridge the digital divide. Any application of software and/or hardware developed with the aim to promote the rights and needs of particular groups; or to improve the wellbeing, quality of life and standard of living of the community, with the ultimate intent to bridge the digital divide.

4. Best of e-Health

This Award is presented to the most innovative nomination for developing ICT solutions for the health / healthcare sector. Any application of software and/or hardware that relates to the services provided to individuals or communities by a health care system or by professionals to promote, maintain, monitor, or restore health. Healthcare contains a broad spectrum of services and activities delivered by a team of health personnel. Included are systems for hospitals, clinics, health resorts, etc. The application must be developed specifically for Communications Industry and it is not appropriate and difficult to be converted and used by other industry.

5. Best of Security

This Award is presented to the most innovative nomination for developing ICT solutions for security systems applications. Any application of software and/or hardware that is related to authentication, encryption, intruder detection, antivirus, anti spyware, data and/or system protection.

6. Best of Communications Applications

This Award is presented to the most innovative nomination for developing outstanding communications technologies or for developing ICT solutions that make creative use of communications technologies. Any application of software and/or hardware that is related to the transmission of signs, signals, writing, images, sounds, voice, video, data, or intelligence of any nature by digital or analog, electromagnetic or electronic signals through existing and emerging media (e.g., radio, telephone, television, facsimile, SMS, MMS, GPRS, Internet, WiFi, WiMax,3G, Bluetooth, RFID). The application must be developed specifically for Communications Industry and it is not appropriate and difficult to be converted and used by other industry.

7. Best of Industrial Applications

This Award is presented to the most innovative nomination for developing solutions that support the industrial sector, including manufacturing processes. Any application of software and/or hardware required by engineering automation to increase its process performance of creating products and services, to improve efficiency and productivity e.g. Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing (CAD/CAM), optimization devices and system, process effectiveness monitoring tools, data acquisition software, SCADA, process and discrete manufacturing, oil and gas, etc.

8. Best of E-Logistics

This Award is presented to the most innovative nomination for developing ICT solutions that support the logistics sector. Any application of software and/or hardware that supports and enables the planning, implementing, and controlling efficient, effective flow and storage of goods, services and related information, from the point of origin to the point of consumption in order to meet customers’ requirements.

9. Best of Financial Applications

This Award is presented to the most innovative nomination for developing ICT solutions that support the financial sector and various financial related business processes in an enterprise. Any application of software and/or hardware that is related to the process of transferring and managing capital or funds, or monetary related entities within or across the enterprise. Such are applications for the banking, insurance, stock exchange, and multi finance industries.

10. Best of Media and Entertainment

This award is presented to the most innovative nomination in the field of creative content development for media / entertainment / infotainment. Any application of software and/or hardware that is related to the process of combining text, sound, pictures, and videos, to create a diversion that holds the attention (entertainment), in the form of Multimedia, Infotainment, Immersive, and Interactive software, Games, etc. Including in this category is the applications as afore mentioned through internet medium and mobile devices delivery. Any application software, hardware or its combination that provides management and technical support to the news and entertainment industry such as Television & Radio Broadcasting, Cinema, Live Entertainment, Publishing, Newspaper, Internet News.

11. Best of Tourism and Hospitality

TThis Award is presented to the most innovative nomination for developing ICT solutions for support of the tourism and hospitality industry.Any software program that operates hardware, increases the efficiency of systems, measures and/or monitor systems usage and performance. Any software program that provides for data access/retrieval, data manipulation (eg.sort/merge), data management, and program design/development. Any application of software and/or hardware for the service based industries such as transport, food and beverage, tours, souvenirs, accommodation, health tourism, culture, adventure or simply escape and relaxation.

12. Best of Applications and Infrastructure Tools

This award is presented to the most innovative nomination for the development of applications and infrastructure tools. Any software program that operates hardware, increases the efficiency of systems, measures and/or monitor system usage and performance. Any software program that provides for data access/retrieval, data manipulation (e.g., sort/merge), data management, data warehousing and program design/development. It includes all database management system (DBMS) software; decision-support and executive information system (EIS) programs; spreadsheet programs; front-end and back-end CASE tools; and emerging areas like cooperative processing and/or object management application development tools.

13. Best of Research & Development

This Award is presented to the most outstanding ICT R&D project. Any ICT research and creation, to discover and invent new knowledge, products, processes, and services or to create new and improved products, processes, and services required by market needs. It can be a prototype, or a completed product commercialized for a less than a year and with no customer installations yet.

14. Best of Start-up Companies

This Award is presented to the most entrepreneurial ICT Company, the incorporation date of which must not be earlier than 3 years from 31st October of the year of the Awards.

15. Best of Tertiary Student Project – Software / Hardware

This Award is presented to the most innovative ICT software and or hardware project from students of Institutions of Higher Learning. Any ICT project that is conducted by a student or a group of students who are formally enrolled in an institution of higher-learning, such as college or university, excluding Master and Doctorate programs.

16. Best of Secondary Student Project

This Award is presented to the most innovative ICT project (e.g., web-based, creative multimedia, etc.) from secondary school students.

17. Best in Operational Excellence

This Award will be presented to the Service or Product company that has shown the most innovation in customer service & satisfaction

18. Best in Service Innovation

This Award will be presented to the service company that has the most unique and creative business model in terms of service innovation.

19. Best in Corporate Social Responsibility

This Award will be presented to the company that has developed a product or provided a service using ICT for the development of the rural sector, for empowering the underprivileged or the physically challenged.

20. CIO of the Year – Private Sector

This Award will be presented to the CIO of a Private Sector organisation who has worked most effectively and seamlessly with an IT firm in Pakistan to implement a solution which has improved the efficiency of the organisation.

21. CIO of the Year – Public Sector

This Award will be presented to the CIO of a Public Sector organisation who has worked most effectively and seamlessly with an IT firm in Pakistan to implement a solution which has improved the efficiency of the organisation and improved citizen services.

22. Best in System Integration

This Award will be given to the company that has worked with a local customer to provide the best System Integration services thereby improving their automation and delivery.

23. Best in Brand Development

This Award will be presented to the Service or Product company that has most significantly developed its brand over the past year – in terms of its image, its collateral, its advertising and its overall perception locally or internationally.
